On August 4, the last day of the College Democrats of America‘s summer convention in Washington, D.C., Nicole Hobbs ’14 was named national College Democrat of the Year for her work helping to elect Democrats and advocating for progressive legislation.
During her time at Yale, Hobbs has been a tireless advocate for progressive politics in Connecticut and throughout the Northeast. In 2012, Hobbs served as the Yale College Democrats’ Elections Coordinator, overseeing the Yale Dems’ weekly efforts to elect down-ticket Democrats in the region. Following the elections, which shattered expectations for voter turnout on Yale’s campus, Hobbs was then unanimously elected President and has since organized a legislative advocacy day in Hartford, hosted a mayoral debate for New Haven, and welcomed numerous speakers to Yale’s campus to talk with members about the importance of civic engagement.
Also in 2012, the College Dems of Connecticut elected Hobbs as its President. During her tenure, she mobilized Connecticut college students for the 2012 elections and organized the 2013 College Democrats of Connecticut’s spring convention, which featured speakers such as Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy and U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro.
A history major, Hobbs is a senior in Ezra Stiles college.
